About Sacramento Home Winemakers
Sacramento Home Winemakers (SHW) started in 1973 and is the oldest continuously operating home winemaking club west of the Rockies. The Club’s mission is educational – promoting the art and science of home winemaking. SHW is an all-volunteer organization, incorporated as a California Non-Profit Mutual Benefit Corporation.
We want everyone to make good wine and better wine.
The Club meets monthly on the third Wednesdays of the month starting at 7 pm (unless otherwise specified) upstairs at the Turn Verein meeting hall located at 3349 J Street in midtown Sacramento. Many of the meetings are technical and often feature speakers from the winemaking industry and higher educational institutions.
The monthly meetings are supplemented by workshops and other educational activities. Winemaking 101 is offered in late July for those who are interested in learning to make wine. This beginning workshop is complemented by a mentored New Winemakers group crush. While different from year to year, the Club coordinates other events for different skill levels and interests including field trips, Club exclusive wine competition, and the Winemaker of the Year contest. See the Club’s Events Calendar for the next events.
Whether you’re a seasoned winemaker or thinking that you might want to learn about making wine at home, we invite you to a monthly meeting. Please contact membership chairs Gin Yang at 916 217-0294 or ginyangstaehlin@yahoo.com or Tammy Cross at 916 862-1753 or lkcross@aol.com.
