Great Bear Vineyards in Davis is opening their pre-bud break pruning class to SHW members (see footnote below ). The class begins at noon on Saturday, March 29, and is expected to last about 45 minutes or longer depending on questions and those who wish to practice. If you would like to stay for optional wine tasting, Great Bear extends their Wine Club price of $10 instead of $20 for a flight of 5 wines.
Footnote: Mother Nature calls the shots, so on March 29 the vines may not even be at bud break. However, different varietals develop at different speeds and we can talk about the principles of shoot thinning (next step).
